• No cheating or plagiarism. All work submitted must be original.
• If you know you will be absent you must contact me in advance so that we can make a plan for your missing assignments.
• Cell phones, iPods, etc. are not allowed. If you use them or they go off in class I may ask to keep them for the duration of class time.
• No use of Facebook or other unrelated sites when in the Computer Lab.
• Come to class on time. Be seated at either 8:15 or 9:30.
• Be prepared when class begins (bring your books and materials).
• It is polite and respectful to raise your hand when you want to speak.
• You may bring water into the classroom.
ELC Class Rules
These rules are an overview of what is expected of you. For a complete list of rules and policies, please see the Student Handbook.
Honor Code: All students who attend the ELC have signed the Honor Code. Please make sure you are familiar with the honor code because it will be strictly enforced at the ELC. Please be especially aware of the “dress code” section and come to class appropriately dressed and groomed. I will ask you to return home and change if you are not appropriately prepared.
Expect Excellence: In my classroom and during my class time you are expected to speak only English. If this is difficult for you, sit next to someone who does not speak your language. Outside the classroom, I encourage you to use English in order to include others and improve your skills. This is a matter of respect, progress and honor.
ELC Attendance Policy: You must have at least 80% attendance in each class at all times. If you drop below 80% in any class, you will be dismissed from the ELC.
• If you are sick, please take a doctor’s note to room 103 to be excused.
If you know you will be absent for another reason, write a letter and deliver it to room 103. Your letter will be reviewed and your absence may or may not be excused.
Grading
Citizenship (“Am I a good student?”)
A citizenship grade at the ELC is representative of a student’s effort. Remember that you must have a grade of 84% or 3.0 or higher to take a vacation or to return to the ELC. Your citizenship grade will be determined by the following:
• 50% Homework – completing homework assignments on time
*Daily Homework assignments are due in class the day after they are assigned. These assignments will not be accepted late.
*For all other assignments, you will lose 15% for every day the assignment is late. After 1 week the assignment may no longer be turned in.
• 50% Participation – actively participating in the class activities for the day. This includes coming prepared with materials, staying awake, sharing your ideas, asking questions, and using English
*Each time you are absent, or miss 10 minutes of class you will lose 3 participation points. If you are not present, you are not participating. Each time you are late, you will lose 1 point. If it is 8:15am or 9:30am and you are not seated, you are late.
Proficiency (“How’s my English?”)
The proficiency grade is a reflection of your progress in English. This grade will include the following:
5% Quizzes
35% Accuracy Logs
15% Other major assignments
45% Tests
Test Dates:
